VTB Stadium & Arena in Moscow about to enter in next design phase

MANICA Architecture and its team complete the current phase of design development on March 1st.  The project will then be handed to partners in Moscow (Speech Architects) for them to complete Stage P for submission to the City.

For the next phase of design, MANICA Architecture will be reserved for the Client and continue to work on the interior design and graphics.  MANICA intends to retain the Rockewell Group and Catt Lyon Design as part of its team for that phase.

Demolition of the existing facility continues through early 2012, while maintaining and preserving portions of the historic wall of the original Dynamo Moscow stadium located in Petrovsky Park in the heart of central Moscow.  Excavation will begin later this year and continue throughout the year. Momentarily the intended start of construction is dated late 2012/early 2013.

The new VTB Stadium and Arena Development is named after VTB Bank -  the Moscow bank spearheading the $1.5 billion USD development - and encompasses a new 45,000-seat FIFA regulation outdoor stadium, a 12,000-15,000-seat indoor multi-purpose arena, a high-end mixed-use commercial entertainment district, residential towers, commercial office towers and a new five-star hotel.

The groundbreaking new design integrates two levels of commercial retail space within the historically preserved walls of the old stadium and locates both the outdoor football stadium and the indoor multi-use arena together above these new commercial areas.  The two sport venues can operate completely independently, yet are combined within a single building enclosure.  This unique solution not only preserves the historic façade of the existing stadium and the surrounding parkland, it also creates a fully integrated sport and entertainment destination.   “Spectators coming to large-scale sporting events or concerts will have an opportunity to spend their time there before and after the event, dining at restaurants, visiting children’s zones and shopping galleries”, says Andrei Peregoudov, Chairman of the Board of jsc VTB Arena and General Director of the Management Company Dynamo, “As we can see internationally, such a scheme is very effective in terms of safety, convenience and economics.”
